Just Kidding

I decided to change the name of my blog. It will now be Sugar and Spiced and All Things Iced: http://www.sugarandspiceandallthingsiced.com/. I am so excited for my new name!

I also have a new Facebook page set up: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sugar-and-Spice-and-All-Things-Iced/170138049713180. I have twitter and RSS feeds available. I am still trying to figure out the twitter thing and I can't believe I just discovered RSS feeds -- how did I not know about them before!! Check my blog for those links.

Thanks for all of your support! If you happened to bookmark my previous site or like my previous Facebook page, feel free to update to the current links! This will be the last change.

I will get back to posting regular (and by regular, I mean weekly not every other month!) pictures of my family in a few days.

Bridal Shower

Last week I made the refreshments for my cousin's fairy tale bridal shower.

Royal Icing Sugar Cookies - I used Sweetopia's Recipe for the royal icing and Our Best Bite's Recipe for the sugar cookies.

I love the glass slipper decorations!

Baking, Baking, and More Baking

Hi, my name is BreAna and I LOVE to bake. One of these days, I'll start posting all of my cooking stuff on a different blog. But until then you will just have to scroll through it all. :) Here is a little glimpse of what's been going on at our house this month:

Blueberry Lemon Poppyseed Cookies -- I wanted to re-create a yummy cookie I ate last summer from My Dough Girl. They didn't quite turn out the way I wanted them to...but they still tasted good. I used this recipe: http://www.southernplate.com/2011/02/lemon-blossoms.html and added some blueberries, poppyseeds, and lemon zest.

French Meringue Macarons with Lemon Buttercream Filling: Every time I see I picture of a macaron, I am intrigued. They are so cute! I read that these adorable cookies are finicky and a challenge to make. A couple of weeks ago, I decided I just had to try them. I used the Basic French Meringue Macaron recipe from Tartlette. I was really disappointed when almost all of my shells stuck to my parchment paper. However, once I filled them with a little Lemon Buttercream Frosting (from my Better Homes and Garden cookbook) they were a lot better. I decided that everyone is right, they are a challenging cookie to make. One of these days, I'll try them again. But for now I will probably stick to my sugar cookies. :)

Calene's Birthday Cupcakes: I made two types of cupcakes for Calene's Birthday.

Chocolate with Raspberry Filling and Cream Cheese Frosting: For the filling, I used boughten raspberry pie filling. These for so yummy!!

Better Than School Cupcakes (This is what Calene called her favorite cake growing up): I used a chocolate cake. After they cooled, I poked 3-4 holes with the handle of a wooden spoon. I then filled them with sweetened condensed milk and caramel ice cream topping. I topped them with homemade whipped cream and chopped toffee bars.

The cupcake toppers were made using leftover royal icing from the last time I made sugar cookies.

Dried Pineapple Flowers: Okay, these don't really count as baking. But I just had to share them too! I bought a pineapple the day after I saw Annie's tutorial: http://annies-eats.net/2011/02/28/how-to-make-dried-pineapple-flowers/. Pineapple is one of my favorite foods! However, I hate cutting pineapple. So, it sat on my counter for a few days. By the time I got around to cutting it up it was very ripe. I think it would be a lot easier to slice the pineapple thin if the pineapple isn't too soft. :)

I feel bad for not posting pictures of my little girls, so here are a few. My goal for this week is to take more pictures of my girls. Nearly every picture from this month has been taken while they were eating. :)

Yummy...I'll clean it up Mommy!

Re-dipping the bottoms of the cake balls I made for a bridal shower last week. When they say use wax paper...use wax paper...parchment paper just didn't work for me. Stay tuned for the finished cake ball pictures. I'll post them later. I also made cupcakes for a RS activity. I'm disappointed that I didn't take pictures of the finished product. Oh well, next time. :)

Lemon Blueberry Cake

This week I made a Triple-Lemon Blueberry Layer Cake that I found on Sweetapolita. When I saw this cake a couple of weeks ago, I was so excited to try it out. I just needed the perfect occasion...or at least an excuse to make it. Imagine my surprise when Alton asked his brother Ben what kind of cake he wanted for his birthday and he said he wanted a lemon cake....PERFECT!

Mmmm Mmmm....I love lemons!!!

Hot Cereal

Every morning I ask Adysen what she wants for breakfast. 90% of the time she says "hot cereal." Really?! I ask her if she wants cheerios and she tells me "no, hot cereal." Okay...works for me!

I actually didn't think I liked oatmeal up until about a month ago. I had only had it a few times. Then I discovered that I could add fruit to my oatmeal! Yummy!! We now have oatmeal for breakfast nearly every day and I LOVE IT!!

This is my bowl of oatmeal from earlier this week. A few frozen blueberries, raspberries, pomegranates, slivered almonds, and a little sprinkle of sugar.

How do you like your oatmeal?

My Little Baker

Adysen loves to help me in the kitchen. On January 13th, I made some almond poppyseed muffins (click on the name for the recipe--I made them without the glaze. Next time I think I'll make them as bread and not muffins). They were delicious. Adysen called them cupcakes.

Adysen found the mini muffins cooling on the rack and decided they would fit perfectly in her cupcake pan. She walked over and got one muffin at a time and filled up her pan (I must not have gotten a picture of it full). Everyday she does something to amaze me. :)

I have the hardest time getting her to smile for the camera. :)

Happy Valentine's Day

Adysen and I decorated sugar cookies for Valentine's Day. She enjoyed licking the icing off of her cookies. Yummy!!

This is Adysen's smile when we ask her to smile for the camera:

Lovebugs...I got the idea from Our Best Bites. I happened to already have the cookies made and ready to frost when they posted the lovebug idea on Friday.

Happy 27th Birthday

Alton's birthday was last week. I baked him a 5 layer chocolate cake. It was pretty yummy if I do say so myself. I used a cake mix and doctored it up using a modified version of this recipe:http://www.ourbestbites.com/2010/05/easy-white-cake.html.

Here are a couple of pictures of the girls. I worked on the cake during Adysen's nap. She was so excited to see it when she woke up. She said "Pretty happy birthday cake!" I love her compliments!!
